Our internet connection at home is poor. Will this be a problem?

For students with poor internet, or in different time zones, you may not be able to access the live video conference with your classmates.

The primary communication function between students and staff using Microsoft Teams is the Post (text-based chat) function, which only requires low-speed internet. Videos will be made of many lessons which students can download and watch when they have better access to the internet. If you will be without reliable internet connection for a prolonged period, please make contact with our Director of Studies, Mrs Natasha Stanfield to discuss alternative arrangements.

How do I access the online classroom?

When you receive an invitation to join, you should remember:

  • Click on 'Join Now' - this will bring you into the online classroom.

  • On the toolbar, click on the microphone and camera to mute the sound and turn off the camera.

  • Click 'Like' when requested by your teacher to signal that you are present - this is the way your teacher will take the roll.

  • The teacher will then instruct you using their voice via their image on the screen or through the Conversation thread.

  • From time-to-time, the teacher will check in and ask you if you understand, have completed the activity or if you need help. You can respond using text or the following emojis to signal where you are at with your learning.

Thumbs up - "I understand, I've finished the current task"

Time Out Ted - "I need support/I am accessing support"

Wave - "I have a question/I need help"

Your teacher may ask you to share your ideas in two ways:

                • to unmute your microphone in the toolbar and speak your answer. Everyone in the online classroom will hear you

                • to share a piece of your writing/worksheet by sharing your screen. To find out how to do this, view a short video tutorial by clicking here 'Sharing your screen'.

What if I am having IT issues during a lesson?

Your first point of call is your classroom teacher.

If your audio is not working during a class, try sending a message to your teacher in the chat section of your Teams class. If your Teams app isn't working, email your teacher and let them know you are having difficulty with accessing the lesson content.

If you are having technical issues, please contact IT: @ IT Hub. The IT Team will work with you remotely using Microsoft Teams/screen sharing to rectify any IT issues with you in real time.
