How to Attach Building Brick Extensions (for Legos or Mega Bloks)
Turn Dash on/off by pressing the button once.
Do NOT lift Dash by the head. Lift from the base to avoid damage over time.
Use in an area with enough floor space so Dash can maneuver without crashing into obstacles.
Name and label each Dash robot. (iPads have already been labeled)
Only charge 8 devices at a time on each charging block.
When using Dash with the Blockly App, it is a good idea to create a Profile for each teacher on each of the iPads. In this way each teacher can have up to 10 groups of students and students can save their work on a specific iPad to continue working on their program later. Keep in mind there is a character limit when naming a profile.
It's also nice having a Guest profile in case someone wants to try using Dash without erasing someone else's work.
You will need both charging bricks to charge all 10 Dash robots, as only 8 robots can charge on a brick at a time. Plug Dash into the orange charging cable. The charging port will light up when plugged in. If the battery is charging, the power button light will gently glow. When the battery is full, the power button light will turn off. Dash has a battery life of 90 continuous minutes.
Make sure the "ears" are pointing down on the head piece.
You can adjust your robot's volume from a menu in your app, accessible via the following steps:
Step 1: Open any compatible app: Wonder or Blockly. (Can't adjust volume in Go, Path, or Xylo Apps). Connect your robot.
Step 2: In the top right corner, tap the picture of your robot. (It’s where the orange + was.)
Step 3: Tap the orange oval with gears in it to adjust settings.
Step 4: Adjust the volume with the - and + buttons.
In order to more easily identify which Dash an iPad is connecting to, it is beneficial to name them. Follow the steps below to rename Dash:
Step 1: Open your app (Blockly, Wonder, Go, Path, or Xylo)
Step 2: Connect to your robot using the plus sign (+).
Step 3: Tap the orange setting button with the gears in it.
Step 4: Now name your robot!
The red lights on your robot means it wants an update. If you're robot is acting funny, or you just want to check if an update is needed, follow these steps (make sure the Dash is plugged in!):
Hold all 3 orange buttons, plus the power button, until the the lights turn red, then release. The lights will slowly blink between red and off. If you miss the red lights, just keep holding the buttons and release when they are red again.
Open your app (Wonder, Blockly, etc.) and search for robots to connect to by clicking the + symbol at the top right. You should see one called “DFU DASH”.
Tap the picture of your robot to connect and follow the prompts to update the firmware.
When the update finishes, your robot should be connected, powered on, and ready to go. You can choose to personalise your robot if you like.
