Four Key Pillars
Dr. Jeffrey Buck, Dean
College of Business and Information Technology
Our strategic focus is centered around four key pillars that align with the Purdue Portfolio. Through these strategic focuses, we aim to provide a meaningful educational experience for all stakeholders involved.
We prioritize Reputation, and recognize the importance of maintaining a strong standing in the academic community and beyond. Collaboration is crucial, as we foster partnerships and alliances that enhance our collective potential and promote innovation.
We are committed to Student Results and Support, ensuring that every student receives the guidance and resources they need to excel.
Program accessibility and Relevance are fundamental, enabling us to reach diverse audiences and offer education that aligns with current and future needs.
We emphasize Differentiation and Social Responsibility, striving to be distinctive in our offerings while remaining mindful of our impact on society and the environment.
A Premier Online School of Business and Technology for Adults
We talk about it a lot, but what does it really mean to be a premier, adult learner focused, online school of business and technology … what are the characteristics that provide credence to such a claim?
Well, I asked Gemini for the answer and here are my high-level takeaways.
A premier online school of business and technology for the adult learner will:
Utilize of a learning platform that is intuitive and leverages appropriate technology.
Employ a market-driven orientation toward program offerings; delivering a curriculum that is focused on future jobs and reflects cutting-edge technological advancements.
Deliver a wide range of degrees and short-term credentials that provide an individual with the opportunity to choose a personalized pathway that aligns with their goals.
Be staffed with engaging and experienced faculty that can bring real-world experiences into the virtual classroom.
Prioritize a robust set of approaches to supporting students and fostering a sense of community among its learners.
Maintain a strong academic reputation and appropriate accreditations from respected accrediting bodies.
Without doubt, there is always room for improvement, but I think these characteristics accurately describe the Purdue Global School of Business and Information Technology. The status of premier is a lofty aspiration, but one that I think we have earned.

Meet Amy Sempek-Eyre: Inspiring Leadership in and Beyond the Classroom
Professor Amy Sempek-Eyre brings a unique blend of industry expertise, compassionate leadership, and real-world insight to her role as an Adjunct Professor at Purdue University Global. Since joining Kaplan University in 2009, Professor Sempek-Eyre has been committed to supporting adult learners on their educational journeys, fostering confidence, and preparing students to thrive as business professionals.
Beyond the virtual classroom, Professor Sempek-Eyre holds a high-impact position in the healthcare industry. She is the Senior Director of Strategic Accounts in the Neuroscience Division at Eli Lilly, a major pharmaceutical company headquartered in Indianapolis. In this role, she manages key relationships between the organization and hospital systems across Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Her current focus lies in the advancement of Alzheimer's Disease treatment, an effort driven by both professional dedication and personal hope. "I believe in Lilly and I believe that I will see the day Alzheimer's is eradicated,” she shares.
Professor Sempek-Eyre's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Nebraska and an MBA from Bellevue University. Her areas of specialization include management, leadership, healthcare trends, and healthcare management. She has taught various courses, including MT140, MT106, CS113, and, most recently, IN150.
Her journey into the business and pharmaceutical sectors began after a decade in human resources. Experiencing two layoffs, she made the strategic decision to pivot from a cost center to a profit center. With her MBA, she secured a position at Eli Lilly, where her impact has been deeply felt. Whether contributing to advancements in mental health, migraine care, or Alzheimer's research, she considers it a privilege to witness firsthand the lives transformed by these medical breakthroughs.
Students in Professor Sempek-Eyre's classes benefit from her professional insight and empathetic teaching style. She understands the complex lives of adult learners, many of whom juggle careers, families, and personal obligations. "Being open and honest about the challenges is connecting," she explains. She encourages students to think and write like professionals in the workplace, shifting focus from word count to impact. She notes that this mindset often produces thoughtful, concise work that demonstrates clarity and confidence.
The positive influence Professor Sempek-Eyre brings to the classroom is evident in the feedback she receives. She especially values the moments when students express how her guidance helped them adjust to the online learning environment and build confidence in their academic abilities. "When a class develops a personality, a sense of humor, and care for one another, I know my influence is meaningful."
Outside her professional roles, Professor Sempek-Eyre enjoys cooking, baking sourdough bread, savoring great wine, attending live music performances, and watching hockey. She credits one of her life's most excellent mentors, a teacher, for unlocking her potential and setting her on the path to success. Today, she strives to do the same for her students.
With a passion for lifelong learning, a deep well of professional experience, and a heartfelt commitment to student success, Professor Amy Sempek-Eyre exemplifies the spirit of Purdue University Global's mission to empower adult learners through high-quality, flexible education.

Guide to reporting your PD
By Cathy Hochanadel
In order for you to remain current in your field, a minimum of 8 hours of Professional Development should be completed each fiscal year (July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025).
You can choose 8 hours of professional development to remain current in your field. Please try to focus primarily on your discipline for any outside conferences. Time spent on research (publishing) does not count toward professional development.
Please keep track of the date, session title, length and any other pertinent information. I recommend keeping proof of attendance for your own records.
Attendance at school and department meetings do not count toward PD hours.
Please visit the Center for Teaching and Learning site for many free PD opportunities.
Documenting your PD Hours:
CTL posts your PD entry for CTL-sponsored events on a monthly basis (possibly sooner). However, it is important that you verify this in APL. Click here for more information.
Please note that you can enter the activities directly in APL, or you can use the activity form provided by the CTL and they can enter it for you (strongly recommended).
If you do not use the activity form, please follow this guidance for self-reporting. These are the required elements for PD activities:
Purdue Global requires documentation of the following items for professional development activities:
Activity title
Accurate subtype selection
Correct academic year selection
Start and end dates
Number of hours
Description including details of the training and learning outcomes (if outcomes are not present for the activity, please include a personal reflection about how the activity has helped you strengthen your skillset or enhance your knowledge relative to the courses you teach or work you do at Purdue Global)
If you want to enter your own hours, please go to PG Campus and click on APL nextED under Documents & Forms.

Updates Coming to the PG Campus Main Menu Bar
On May 22, 2025, Purdue Global implemented changes to the main menu bar in PG Campus as the first phase of a yearlong initiative to improve content placement. The updates are intended to help students and faculty more easily find the information they need.
Purdue West Lafayette has developed a Generative AI Resource website that provides best practices, guidance, and a curated list of recommended AI tools for faculty and staff. Purdue Global has adopted both the guiding principles and the recommended tools. The AI tools are available for administrative use, personal use, and as optional tools for class activities or demonstrations. Including AI tools in required course activities must follow the PG AI Policy and the Third-Party Tools approval process. The use of AI tools is optional for faculty and staff. AI should enhance, not replace, employees’ work.
Faculty can demonstrate the appropriate, acceptable use of AI tools as outlined in the PG AI Policy when working with students. The policy permits students to use AI tools to assist with basic proofreading (spelling/grammar checks) and pre-writing strategies/brainstorming. Please review the PG AI Policy for more information about acceptable use.

Writing Across the Curriculum
Writing across the curriculum is an educational initiative that emphasizes the importance of writing as a fundamental skill for students across all disciplines, not just within English or composition courses. The core idea behind WAC is that writing is essential for academic success and critical thinking and therefore should be integrated into all areas of study.
