Four Key Pillars
Dr. Jeffrey Buck, Dean
College of Business and Information Technology
Our strategic focus is centered around four key pillars that align with the Purdue Portfolio. Through these strategic focuses, we aim to provide a meaningful educational experience for all stakeholders involved.
We prioritize Reputation, and recognize the importance of maintaining a strong standing in the academic community and beyond. Collaboration is crucial, as we foster partnerships and alliances that enhance our collective potential and promote innovation.
We are committed to Student Results and Support, ensuring that every student receives the guidance and resources they need to excel.
Program accessibility and Relevance are fundamental, enabling us to reach diverse audiences and offer education that aligns with current and future needs.
We emphasize Differentiation and Social Responsibility, striving to be distinctive in our offerings while remaining mindful of our impact on society and the environment.
Stay Engaged with PG Faculty Senate
As we continue to build a culture of open communication and support, I am happy to announce a new initiative that will kick-off this fall. Beginning this fall, Faculty Senate representatives from SBIT will host quarterly discussion forums with attendance limited to faculty.
Susan Ferebee, SBIT faculty member and Faculty Senate representative is helping drive this initiative and she shares an overview of what you can expect. According to Susan, the SBIT Faculty Senators will host quarterly forums designed to foster open communication and collaboration within our academic community. During these gatherings senators will share updates around on-going projects and initiatives. In addition, these sessions will provide a platform for faculty members to discuss challenges as well as propose innovative ideas. We encourage all faculty to participate in these forums to stay informed, contribute to meaningful discussions, and help shape the future of our institution.
The first two meetings will be on 10-15-24 and 1-21-25. Mark the dates and be sure to watch for calendar invites in the future.

PG Professor Glenn Walton
in Portland, Maine!
Since 2023 Glenn Walton, a Professor in the Business and IT Department, has been involved in a very special community service as he has served as the coordinator and participant for the Portland, Maine Music Medics. The Portland, Maine Downeasters Barbershop Chorus is a nonprofit acapella group that sings throughout the state at a multitude of different functions. They just recently created a new smaller group of singers that are called the Portland Music Medics, as a part of a new community outreach program.
Singers in the Music Medics program split into teams of 4 to 8 singers, dressed in medical scrubs, that go into the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. They sing and entertain those children with serious illnesses so that they can bring a positive experience to the young patients and their families during their medical journeys.
The singers work closely with the facilities children's program coordinator as they have a planned visit once a month. The Portland Music Medics sing in a common area for family and patient entertainment, room to room for anyone who needs more personalized attention and even in the pediatric and general waiting rooms of the hospital. Music Medic also have special songs they sing to just the Nurses stations to show their appreciation for the tireless work the medical staff do!
The musical repertoire is comprised of specially selected children’s songs that they would recognize or enjoy. Uplifting, fun songs, such as Disney songs like “You Got a Friend in Me” or When You Wish Upon a Star,” are some of their favorites. Goofy songs like “Bubble Gum” or “My Wild Chubby Cat” have become very popular with the kids also. Glenn is the emcee for the group, and you can usually find extra equipment in his pockets that he uses from time to time like a small mini rubber chicken, a pitch pipe to start the songs, and a few kazoos! The group tries to create audience participation and generally foster an environment where the patients can forget about where they are for just a little while.
This program is growing throughout the country with the encouragement of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Glenn continually agrees that this particular community service sends a powerful positive message to all who listen and also to those who sing!

Employee Resources Group
At Purdue Global we value a diverse and inclusive community. As envisioned in our strategic planning, the Purdue Global Office of Organizational Culture and Inclusive Excellence (OCIE) is excited to promote opportunities for connection, communication, and support for our staff and faculty through Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
Faculty Learning Communities
Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) through the Center for Teaching and Learning are dynamic groups designed to foster collaborative growth and innovation among educators. Our mission revolves around creating a supportive environment where faculty members engage in meaningful dialogue, share best practices, and explore cutting-edge andrological approaches in online education. With a vision centered on continuous improvement and student success, FLCs aim to empower faculty to excel in their teaching endeavors, leverage emerging technologies effectively, and ultimately enhance the online learning experience for all students. Through these communities, we aspire to cultivate a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration that inspires positive change.

Student Success Center
Faculty and staff play a pivotal role in delivering superior support to students facing non-academic challenges. This includes identifying students experiencing significant difficulties and mobilizing our student support team to provide assistance.
With support from the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Student Success Center has created an online course. This course aims to help address students in need of additional support, sharing strategies to connect with them and refer them to our student success team.
Reminder: Mandatory Alternative Assignment for Canceled Seminars
As a reminder, faculty must assign an alternative activity for any canceled seminar, including seminars not held due to a university-recognized holiday.
Faculty must not grant points to a student for an assignment or seminar that was canceled or otherwise not completed by the student. Awarding unearned points can result in students receiving a failing grade when they should have been withdrawn from the course.
If a seminar is canceled, faculty must post instructions on completing an alternative assignment in the classroom announcements and email the information to students. Students should be directed to ask their instructor questions about the alternative assignment.
Upcoming university-recognized holidays include:
· Juneteenth: Wednesday, June 19
· Independence Day: Thursday, July 4
View the complete holiday schedule for additional dates. Faculty with questions about alternative assignments should reach out to their academic chair.
