Four Key Pillars
Dr. Jeffrey Buck, Dean
College of Business and Information Technology
Our strategic focus is centered around four key pillars that align with the Purdue Portfolio. Through these strategic focuses, we aim to provide a meaningful educational experience for all stakeholders involved.
We prioritize Reputation, and recognize the importance of maintaining a strong standing in the academic community and beyond. Collaboration is crucial, as we foster partnerships and alliances that enhance our collective potential and promote innovation.
We are committed to Student Results and Support, ensuring that every student receives the guidance and resources they need to excel.
Program accessibility and Relevance are fundamental, enabling us to reach diverse audiences and offer education that aligns with current and future needs.
We emphasize Differentiation and Social Responsibility, striving to be distinctive in our offerings while remaining mindful of our impact on society and the environment.
Staying Relevant in a Changing World … the Future is Now
It’s widely recognized that technological innovation is accelerating at an unprecedented speed. The effects include ever-changing adoption and use of new technology tools, growing reliance on real-time data, and the anticipated transformation of future occupations. These effects lead to a substantial need for reskilling and skill development among individuals that will be part of the future workforce.
Like other education providers, SBIT is faced with the challenge of staying relevant in this changing world. As a result, it is probably time for us to take a hard-look at our approach to relevance, while holding true to our mission of preparing students for careers.
Over the next few months, we’ll engage our team around efforts to better understand how we effectively position ourselves as a premier online school of business and technology. It’ll be an important process for defining our future and it’s going to require input from all!

PG Café
While we can’t meet in the Purdue Quad, or a local coffee shop – we can socialize at the PG Café!

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Carol T. Edwards – Teaching with Passion, Purpose, and Heart
With nearly two decades of service at Purdue University Global, Dr. Carol T. Edwards has built a reputation for being more than just an educator. She’s a mentor, motivator, and champion of student success. Currently serving as a Full-Time Faculty member, Dr. Edwards brings diverse experience and boundless enthusiasm to every class she teaches.
Her journey to academia is anything but linear. Before joining PG, Dr. Edwards wore many hats: Academic Advising Administrator, Communications & Wireless Specialist, Accountant, Notary Public, IT Support Staff, Mortgage Consultant, and even CEO and founder of a non-profit organization. With such a varied background, it’s no surprise that her areas of expertise span Education Technology, Curriculum Development, Academic Advising, Civic Services, and Student Engagement.
Dr. Edwards holds a PhD from Northcentral University, an MEd and BIT from American Intercontinental University, and an AAS from Essex County College. At PG, she teaches a wide range of courses, including IT104: Introduction to Cybersecurity, IN150: Foundations for Success in IT, CS114: Academic Strategies for the IT Professional, and IT400: Ethics in Cybersecurity, among others.
But what truly sets Dr. Edwards apart is her philosophy on Learning. “Being in the academic arena is more than a career. It’s a calling,” she says. Her deep love for teaching is grounded in her joy of watching students grow, learn, and reach their full potential. “There is a special kind of joy that comes from watching someone have that ‘aha’ moment.”
In her classroom, engagement and connection are key. Dr. Edwards uses creative techniques like “Creative Mind Sayings,” where students create weekly motivational quotes, which she proudly displays in-class announcements. She also celebrates milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries, and student achievements, creating a space where students feel seen and appreciated.
Interactive elements like team time, breakout rooms, and icebreaker quizzes foster collaboration, while tailored feedback and supplementary materials ensure each learner feels supported. One student says, “She remembers what it’s like to be in our shoes—working, caring for family, and going to school. Her energy, encouragement, and understanding made all the difference.”
Dr. Edwards’ excellence has not gone unnoticed. Her accolades include the 2022 Distinction Award, Outstanding Dedication to Students Award, Peer Reviewer Extraordinaire, and the Organization Builders Award.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys reading, gardening, counseling, and spending time with her family—pursuits that mirror her nurturing and thoughtful nature.
She says, “Learning is more than acquiring knowledge—it’s about connection, celebration, and growth. When we create spaces where people feel valued, inspired, and heard, we open the door for deep, transformative Learning.”
Dr. Carol T. Edwards is a shining example of how passion and purpose can shape students’ academic journeys and their lives as a whole.

AI at Purdue Global
Generative AI Resources - Best Practices and Guidance
Purdue West Lafayette has developed a Generative AI Resource website that provides best practices, guidance, and a curated list of recommended AI tools for faculty and staff. Purdue Global has adopted both the guiding principles and the recommended tools. The AI tools are available for administrative use, personal use, and as optional tools for class activities or demonstrations. Including AI tools in required course activities must follow the PG AI Policy and the Third-Party Tools approval process. The use of AI tools is optional for faculty and staff. AI should enhance, not replace, employees’ work.
Faculty can demonstrate the appropriate, acceptable use of AI tools as outlined in the PG AI Policy when working with students. The policy permits students to use AI tools to assist with basic proofreading (spelling/grammar checks) and pre-writing strategies/brainstorming. Please review the PG AI Policy for more information about acceptable use.
