Four Key Pillars
Dr. Jeffrey Buck, Dean
College of Business and Information Technology
Our strategic focus is centered around four key pillars that align with the Purdue Portfolio. Through these strategic focuses, we aim to provide a meaningful educational experience for all stakeholders involved.
We prioritize Reputation, and recognize the importance of maintaining a strong standing in the academic community and beyond. Collaboration is crucial, as we foster partnerships and alliances that enhance our collective potential and promote innovation.
We are committed to Student Results and Support, ensuring that every student receives the guidance and resources they need to excel.
Program accessibility and Relevance are fundamental, enabling us to reach diverse audiences and offer education that aligns with current and future needs.
We emphasize Differentiation and Social Responsibility, striving to be distinctive in our offerings while remaining mindful of our impact on society and the environment.
From the SBIT Office:
Faculty Training for Military Ambassadors!
I'm very excited about a new initiative we are moving forward with in the next month. SBIT will implement a program to train faculty for the role of Military Ambassadors, preparing them for engagement in educational military events across the country. Emilie Myers is leading this important initiative, and she shares an outline of the program details below:
Our objective is to train a group of Military Ambassadors to be able to speak knowledgeably about PG course offerings and the related needs of military students, personnel and associated industry partners at military events. Training will be asynchronous and result in a certificate. We are currently developing the training materials and hope to roll out a pilot program in early July, with a full roll out shortly thereafter. Please keep an eye out for more information and if you are interested in participating, feel free to reach out to me directly at emilie.myers@purdueglobal.edu
We are excited to move forward with our Military Ambassador Training Program and now have an assessment that leads to certification. Once certified, our Military Ambassadors will be able to speak knowledgeably about PG course offerings and the related needs of military students, personnel and associated industry partners at military events. The first group of certified Military Ambassadors are listed below:
Blake Escudier
Dennis Strouble
Donald McCracken

The Purdue Global School of Business and Information Technology (SBIT) mentoring program is designed to enrich the educational experience of at-risk students by creating a supportive, inclusive, and growth-oriented environment. The program encourages both students and faculty to embrace lifelong learning, promoting a culture of curiosity where ongoing skill development and knowledge acquisition are highly valued. SBIT mentors serve as role models, demonstrating their commitment to continuous learning and inspiring students to view education as an ongoing journey, not just a one-time achievement.
By fostering inclusiveness and respecting each student's unique background, the program ensures that all voices are heard and valued. This enriching environment not only supports academic growth but also strengthens community ties. SBIT mentors will receive training to address biases and promote diversity, ensuring an atmosphere of collaboration and innovation. The program will also focus on key goals such as improving student retention and graduation rates by providing personalized support and essential resources that guide students through their academic journey.
Tailored Support for Academic and Career Success
SBIT mentors will assist students with setting realistic goals, developing effective study strategies, and connecting them to crucial campus resources such as Success Coaches, Tutors and Counseling Services. Mentoring extends beyond academics, offering support in career development through networking opportunities, resume workshops, and internship guidance. This comprehensive approach not only leads to higher academic success but also prepares students for their future careers.
Addressing Unique Challenges
The program was developed to address specific challenges faced by many students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. Purdue Global is committed to creating an inclusive educational experience by recognizing and addressing these obstacles. We have identified several key areas where mentorship can make a difference:
Representation Gaps: Students may feel isolated when they don’t see themselves reflected in their community. Mentors can provide understanding and encouragement to bridge this gap.
Microaggressions: Subtle biases and everyday discriminatory behaviors can erode confidence. Mentors help students build resilience and self-advocacy skills to navigate these challenges.
Financial Pressures: Many students juggle jobs alongside their studies. Mentorship offers guidance on financial literacy and scholarship opportunities.
Lack of Support Systems: For students without strong family or social networks, mentors provide vital emotional and peer support.
Discrimination and Bias: Some students face biases based on their race, ethnicity, or background. Mentors guide these students in self-advocacy and community engagement.
Mental Health: Anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues can impact academic performance. Mentors connect students with appropriate resources and offer emotional support.
Ableism: Students with disabilities often encounter accessibility challenges. Mentors assist these students in navigating campus life while ensuring their needs are met.
Sense of Belonging: Many students, particularly international students, may feel disconnected. Mentors help build a sense of belonging and community essential for student well-being.
Focusing on Key Demographics
The program focuses on several student groups, including:
First-term military students
First-generation college students
Black and Indigenous students
Participants in Purdue Global’s SBIT Business Education Start Track program
English as a Second Language (ESL) students
Other at-risk demographics identified by faculty, success coaches, and academic advisors
Creating a Culture of Lifelong Learning and Inclusivity
The PG SBIT mentoring program will create a space where students and faculty alike are encouraged to continually seek knowledge and growth. By modeling a passion for lifelong learning, mentors inspire students to do the same, making education a continuous, evolving process.
In fostering an inclusive environment, we aim to ensure every student feels valued, respected, and empowered. By training mentors to recognize and address biases, and by encouraging diverse perspectives, we create an atmosphere where all voices are heard and collaboration flourishes. This approach not only enhances the mentoring experience but also contributes to a culture of innovation and mutual learning.
Supporting Retention, Graduation, and Career Success
The ultimate goal of the PG SBIT mentoring program is to support student retention, graduation, and career success. By providing individualized guidance and connecting students with the resources they need, we ensure that students can navigate their academic paths with confidence. Mentoring relationships also focus on career development, helping students prepare for their futures through resume workshops, internships, and networking opportunities.
Through this holistic approach, Purdue Global’s SBIT mentoring program empowers students to thrive academically, personally, and professionally, contributing to higher retention and graduation rates while preparing them for successful careers.

Incredibly engaging and made sure to post the PowerPoint from the class immediately after the class for everyone to have to refer back to.
