We have seen an increase in students participating in more physical activities and sport this year. Each child receives physical activity lessons that are taken by classroom teachers and outside providers such as Kelly Sports and local club development officers. Over half the school have played sport in an organised competition this year.
Teachers organise in their teams, the fitness activities for the week. Physical education is not only taught by the classroom teachers but also by coaches from the Kelly Sports programme. The coaches are paid partly from Manaiakalani's Tu Manawa funding through Sport Auckland and by ourselves. The Kelly Sports coaches lessons during curriculum time over 6 weeks in each term throughout the year.
Lessons are 30-45 minutes long that take place from Monday-Thursday.

Sporting opportunities are only possible when there is a coach, manager and administration staff. We are very thankful to have around 50 people who volunteer their personal time to take a team or individuals to play sport. A special mention goes to our wonderful former students who have come back to coach a team. The list of coaching and management staff is in the spreadsheet below.
House captains for 2024 were:
Te Aurere (red): Willy Fisilau, Leutumoe Setefano
Hikianalia (yellow): Lotofale'ia Malofou, Angelina George
Hine Moana (blue): Moimoi Marsters, Nevaya George
Hokule'a (green): Tomasi Vucago, Kura Mataio
The House Captains are very busy people. They train and play sport all year round for school teams, with a few playing for local clubs and in other representative opportunities. Their roles include setting up lunchtime games, assembly duties such as reading out sports certificates, sharing a motivational quote, announcing the winners of the weekly House competitions. Other duties include creating a house chant, setting up the school picnic games and being a part of the cross country and athletics day organisation.
We have had the largest, most consistent and responsible Sporty Botz monitors this year. We had 23, Year 5 to 7 monitors in total, all girls. Their duties include taking out sports gear for lunchtime use and returning them back to the shed.
Acknowledging Hannah Burton and Tia Peleti for training and organising a team of Year 6-8 videographers to film sporting events throughout the year. Hannah edits and creates all of the movie highlights for P.E.N.N and for our school archives.
Coming up next week on December 17th, at Dilworth College, we are providing several ball boys and ball girls for the Global Youth Rugby 7's tournament. This is a great opportunity for our students to serve the wider community and to be inspired to one day play in the same event.

All information related to physical education and sport is saved in a folder called Sports 2024.
I have the use of a school phone to be accessible for whanau to contact me regarding any sporting queries.
Throughout the year, people donate rugby boots, togs and sports gear for our students. Organisations to acknowledge:
Tamaki Touched - donated approximately $2000 worth of brand new basketballs, netballs, volleyballs and footballs
John Walker Field of Dreams - donated $800 worth of new athletics and play equipment
Auckland Netball Centre - lost property netballs
Sports is a huge part of our school life, engaging a lot of our students and community. Due to the success of our programme, I would recommend the following:
'Meet the Coach' evening for whanau
Purchase sports uniforms with the new logo for students and staff
Create an easy to view Term and Yearly plan for our Physical Education and Sports programme
Create rubrics for students for physical education reporting outcomes and for participating in sport
