Watch the video below to see how to use the questions that you have created in Top Hat while in class. Written step-by-step instructions are listed below as well.
1. After you have created each of your questions, choose the folder of questions that you created earlier from the menu on the left of the screen in order to use these live in class.
2. Select the blue “Present Folder” button in the top right corner. This will begin your session with these questions.
Have your students access your Top Hat course through their web browser or the Top Hat app.
3. Choose the blue “Start Presentation” button to begin using your questions. This will begin to access your questions in order.
“Start Question” will begin the question you are on.
“Skip” will allow you to access the next question in your list.
4. Along the bottom of your screen, choose from the options explained below as needed.
“Open” will allow students to interact with the question on screen. This is the default when you start the question. You may also add a timer or more time to one that is already running in the top right corner of this screen.
“Closed” will stop students from being able to answer the question on screen.
“Responses” will show the results of student submissions for review. From this menu item, you can choose to show the results as a percentage or count, with or without a graph, or with condensed text in questions where word answers are given.
“Correct” will reveal the correct answer to the question when one was set in the question creation steps.
The “>>” key will allow you to progress to the next question in sequence.
The “^” key will allow you to access your question presentation as a whole.
5. Continue to the end of your question set. At the end of your question set, choose the “^” arrow in the bottom left corner of your screen.
You can end your session by selecting the red “End Presentation” button.
6. Access your students’ responses through the Top Hat Gradebook tab at the top of your course page.
