After students have completed their test session, you may have questions – specifically Free Response questions – that need to be manually graded or questions that need to be adjusted in scoring.
1. Access the Top Hat Test that has concluded.
2. Select the “Responses” tab located beside the “Preview” tab toward the top of the page.
3. Choose the “Grade Submissions” button found above the first question in your test.
Note: Sometimes you will see a message that says “There are no student submissions to grade” when you do have items to review. It is recommended that you always review the results of the assessments that you give to be sure grades are accurate.
4. In the grading window, general test information is found on the left hand side while questions are found on the right hand side.
5. Review individual test answers in the questions panel on the right.
Edit any scores with Participation or Correctness scores as appropriate by typing in the earned score in those fields.
Add any notes you have for students in the “Question Feedback” section.
Excuse questions from an individual student’s score by choosing the three vertical dots at the top of the question and selecting “Excuse question” in the menu.
6. Move through student submissions in the testing panel on the left.
Note: Total scores cannot be edited.
Switch between students using the drop down menu or the “Previous” and “Next” buttons.
Excuse individual students from the test using the “Excuse From Test” button. Undo this action by choosing “Unexcuse From Test” found beside it.
Jump to free response questions that need your attention by choosing them from the “Questions to Grade” section at the bottom.
7. Scores will automatically update as you progress through grading. Select “Close” when you are finished with grading.
