Use the instructions below to complete the initial setup steps of creating a Top Hat Test.
1. Access your course. Make sure you are on the “Content” tab from the options along the top.
2. Choose the blue “Create” button in the top left corner of the page. This will open your content options.
3. Select the “Test” option in the fourth column to begin creating your Top Hat Test from scratch.
4. Enter appropriate text in the “Test Name” field. This will automatically be given a name based on the date and time of creation and can be edited later.
5. Select your Monitoring Type from the primary options below.
Non Monitored: Use this option for tests you plan to assign to students, like Take Home Tests.
Top Hat Monitoring: Use this option for tests you plan to deliver in person and want to lock down student browsers.
6. If you select Top Hat Monitoring, Lockdown Options will appear. Edit those options accordingly.
Adjust the first setting to an acceptable amount of time students can leave the test during the testing session. Most instructors will choose “0 seconds” here.
Change the second setting to an amount of times students may leave the test during the testing session. Most instructors will choose “0 departures” here.
Check the box if you would like to lock students out if they take a screenshot during their testing session. Screenshots are still possible with Windows computers. Most instructors will check this box.
7. Select the “Create Test” button.
