Watch the video below to see how to add slides that you have created to Top Hat. Written step-by-step instructions are listed below as well.
1. Select your presentation from the list of items on the left-hand side of the Content tab in Top Hat.
2. To start presenting from Top Hat, choose the blue “Present Slides” button in the top right corner of the screen.
You may also start from a slide within your presentation by hovering over the slide you wish to start from and choosing the podium icon on the right.
3. Select the blue “Start Presentation” button to begin using your questions. This will begin to access your slides in order.
If you have questions embedded in your slides, you should have your students open the Top Hat app or webpage on their devices.
4. Along the bottom of your screen, choose from the options explained below as needed.
The “>” button will move to the next slide while the “<” button will move to the previous slide.
5. Choose the pencil icon to access annotation options. Remaining annotations will be saved on your presentation at the end of the session.
The first button in this menu allows you to change the color of your annotations.
The second button allows you to change the thickness of your annotations. The applied setting is in the color that you set with the first button.
The third button allows you to undo your previous annotation.
The fourth button allows you to clear all annotations on the slide.
6. Embedded questions will function like another slide in your presentation. As you reach them, use the buttons explained below to move through the question.
“Start Question” will begin the question you are on.
“Skip” will allow you to access the next question in your list.
“Open” will allow students to interact with the question on screen. This is the default when you start the question. You may also add a timer or more time to one that is already running in the top right corner of this screen.
“Closed” will stop students from being able to answer the question on screen.
“Responses” will show the results of student submissions for review. From this menu item, you can choose to show the results as a percentage or count, with or without a graph, or with condensed text in questions where word answers are given.
“Correct” will reveal the correct answer to the question when one was set in the question creation steps.
The “>>” key will allow you to progress to the next question or slide in sequence.
7. Continue to the end of your presentation. At the end of your slides, select the “^” arrow in the bottom left corner of your screen.
You can end your session by choosing the red “End Presentation” button.
8. Access your students’ responses to questions you included in your presentation through the Top Hat Gradebook tab at the top of your course page.
