Jonathan Hoogstra is a science teacher at Plainfield Central High School, where he supports teachers and students in the effective, ethical, and purposeful use of technology in the classroom. Jonathan holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education and am currently in my second year teaching science, with experience teaching both biology and chemistry.
This is his first year serving in the Instructional Technology Coach role, with a primary focus on helping educators and students understand how Artificial Intelligence can meaningfully support teaching and learning. Jonathan's goal is to inspire curiosity and critical thought in students while demonstrating how AI can serve as a powerful augment to creation, problem-solving, and learning rather than a replacement for human thinking.
He regularly researches emerging AI tools and instructional practices to stay current in a rapidly evolving educational landscape and to provide teachers with practical, classroom-ready strategies. An avid self-described nerd, he enjoys exploring the intersection of science, technology, and education. He also serve as the sponsor for the Scientific Research Club, where students engage in authentic inquiry and develop skills in research, collaboration, and scientific communication.
