Writers don’t only think about the big chapters or parts when they are planning a teaching book. Writers also think about the smaller parts within a chapter- the subtopics- and they plan for these by thinking, “What are the smaller parts of this big part that my reader will want to learn about?” and listing those subtopics down the page.
Writers should be independently writing for at least 20 minutes following the daily focus being explored. We kindly ask that children complete 1-2 full writing pieces throughout the week.
This looks like.....
"My topic is Coffee! One of my chapters is going to teach about where you can buy coffee. Inside of this chapter I am going to teach about: Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Joes coffee and delis and restaurants!"
