Readers should be independently reading a nonfiction text for at least 20 minutes following the daily focus being explored.
We kindly encourage our young readers to keep their reading life in fiction texts lively, by spending additional time with fiction texts that are just right for them. Students should spend at least 20 minutes reading their fiction books.
Today's Focus: Character Traits
As readers, one habit we have is learning about our characters through what they say, what they do, and how they react to the problem. As we find examples in our readings that support what kind of person a character is, we can flag that page with a "T" and come back to it after we read to jot about it. Today when you're done reading, go back to your flags with a "T" and jot about what type of person one of your characters is. Be specific with your traits! Try to do a 4-start jot.
