Homophones- words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings!
When writing words, we can clap out the syllables and think about the sounds we hear in each part. We know that each syllable should have at least one vowel. We think, "is it a long vowel sound or a short vowel sound?"
Usually, vowel teams signal that the first sound is "long." However, we know that there are some exceptions such as ea in bread. Different vowel teams can make the same sound such as ai and ay!
Phonics professors can study and talk about the "phonics" we find inside of words.
Rasheed has a digraph (sh) and a vowel team (ee)!
Some words are not spelled the way they sound (such as one and where). We can make these words "snap words" (words that we know how to spell in a snap) by reading them, chanting them, studying them, spelling them and using them!
