Writers can study a favorite nonfiction book to learn ways to organize their information. You can study a mentor text thinking, “How did the author organize the parts of this book? What kinds of special sections or chapters did they include?” Then they can think, “How can I try that, too?”
Writers should be independently writing for at least 20 minutes following the daily focus being explored. We kindly ask that children complete 1-2 full writing pieces throughout the week.
