Summer is rapidly approaching, and without some structure you could get bored. Some of you might consider playing video games all summer, but plenty of parents will want you to get out and enjoy the weather. Without further ado, here are some ideas for fun activities you can do outside!
Chalk art. I know it might seem like something only little kids do, but it can be fun to cover the sidewalk or driveway outside of your home with colorful chalk art. This can also be an activity that you can do with your annoying younger sibling. What fun!
Shoot your sibling or another target with water guns. On hot summer days, nothing is more refreshing than running around and throwing water at your friend/sibling. Enjoy their yells of annoyance as you hide and sneak attack them with a water balloon or water gun.
Make and enjoy popsicles. Popsicles are a great way to cool down on a hot day. The best part is, they’re easy to make! All you need is some popsicle molds, a freezer, and juice or sweet liquid or your choice. Bonus points if you make them with homemade lemonade!
Play your video games outside! This one is pretty self explanatory. If your parents force you to sit outside, just bring your gaming device with you! I recommend hollow knight, undertale, spirit farer, and the new zelda game.
Go to a park. You can walk to your local park and sit in the shade. Or the sun I guess. You could also go on a play structure if you want to get a burn, but that seems annoying. Don't forget sunscreen!
Read a book. Go sit in a shady spot and enjoy your favorite book with a cold beverage and a nice breeze. You could even climb a tree and read a book! Or if you have no books, you could walk or beg your parents to drive you to the library. Libraries typically have air conditioning, and since your parents will likely just be happy that you’re not playing video games, they’ll be more likely to take you. Happy reading!
Paint a painting, but outside! Get your paints or art supplies and make pretty art! You could even give your art piece to your parents! Or you could “accidentally” get paint on your sibling. Oops!
Go on a hike. You’ll need your parents for this one. Go to your favorite trail and enjoy the breathtaking views of Portland, oregon. Just make sure you bring your bug spray! Mosquito bites are no fun.
Trampoline. It's always fun to jump on things, but trampolines are surprisingly hard to come by. They’re great exercise though!
Hit things with sticks. Now, you might not be allowed to do this, but you could hit a tree or something instead of a person. It’s surprisingly therapeutic to hit things, and it also strengthens your arms. Because of legal obligations, I have to advise you against hitting people or animals with sticks.
Bonus: hide inside and pretend that you’re outside. Under the bed usually works.
