Academic Support
Academic Support
Academic support is a special education supported learning environment where kids receive direct instruction, service, and support to meet IEP Goals. During this block, kids will work on the following:
Executive Skills: A focus on planning, task completion, and test-taking strategies. These skills are individualized to each student. While general education classroom work is a priority, the focus of the support is focused on executive skills development for independent learning.
Educational Technical Skills: Students will learn to create templates, documents, share documents and use commonly used applications in classes like Google Applications, Google Classroom, Text-to-Speech, Speech-to-Text, Spelling & Grammar checking software and more.
Transitional Planning: Students will identify their post-high school goals and develop a plan to meet those goals. This process includes learner profile development, skills assessment, and more state-approved transitional programming assessments to develop a Transitional Plan for their IEP.
Goal Setting: Kids will learn to write S.M.A.R.T. Goals that are aligned to their IEP and work toward them.
IEP Conferencing: Kids will meet with a Case Manager to learn about their IEP and prepare for their IEP meeting. When students are willing, we prepare them to lead their own meetings, with the Case Manager guidance.
