This might be the most asked question. I teach because I understand learning is hard for some. Not every kid is ready to take on academics. Many teachers become teachers because they love learning or they did well in school. I did not. It took me years to learn how I learn and why I learn the way I do. I always thought my peers read, reread and reread again. Turns out you don't have to do that at all, learning can be fun. My experience with trying to learn when I was unaware of a learning disability made me dislike learning. Now, I understand not everyone learns by simply reading. I like to pass this on to kids who might not know they too can learn differently and it won't stop them from reaching their goals.

I taught special education at Deering for 15 years. Now I'm excited to be a part of the Portland High School Dog Pound.
I am the father of two amazing kids who teach me every day. Grace is 3 years old and going on 13. Finnegan is 4 months old and quite the meatloaf. I taught for 15 years before having my own children, now I have a new perspective on what children mean to our society and world. There is so much I want to teach them, but they need to start with the 9 episodes of Star Wars and Rogue 1, so make it 10. Then we can get on to the less important stuff like physics and engineering.
