Student Led IEP
What is an I.E.P?
Why Should I Lead My IEP?
Advantages:
You will take charge of your learning and have more of a voice in your education program.
It gives you time to think about your education and life goals.
It improves your communication skills.
You will gain the ability to explain to others what you need to be successful in school, on the job, in college or training environments and when you are living on your own.
At age 18, Educational Rights are transferred over to you. This means that parents are no longer allowed access to your records without your permission. You will be signing and making decisions yourself. Leading your IEP enables you to know the process so you are prepared for this change.
As with their peers, students who lead their own IEP meetings develop stronger self-determination skills and acquire greater knowledge about life after high school (transition).

Student Led IEP Rubric
The IEP Rubric is a guide for what we expect our students to understand. Since the IEP is a legal document that is built on student strength and needs, then it's important for students to. understand both. When they go to college, they will not have a case manger to help them or explain their needs. It's our duty to be sure you learn about yourself through exploration of your IEP.
