What is the Modern Learner?
The past 20 years have been defined by a dramatic shift in teaching and learning. Fact memorization of "drill and kill" has been replaced with higher-order thinking skills, problem-solving and critical thinking. Modern teaching and learning are slowly replacing the outdated traditional models.
Throughout this course you will analyze various resources to answer the question, what is a modern learner and how do we teach them?
Section 1: Traditional Vs Modern Education
What is the Modern Learner? Use the following resources formulate a definition of a traditional learner to a modern learner. Please complete part 1 of the worksheet.
Section 2: Are you a Modern Teacher? Do you have a Modern Learning Environment?
Take a look at your past lessons. Do they reflect more of a Traditional Learning Environment or a Modern Learning Environment?
1. Use the resources from Section 2 to complete the chart of vision of a Modern Learning Environment and You!
Section 3: Your Classroom as Modern Learning Environment?
Write a lesson, citing resources from the course, that would create a full Modern Learning Environment.
The lesson must contain:
- One of the examples from the article, Methodologies that every 21st Century Teacher Should Know
- One of the examples from the article, 10 Principals for Schools of Modern Learning
- design for a Flexible Learning Environment.
