Set the right expectations for piano education and practice
(both for yourself and your child)
We hear from many parents when their children start piano lessons, they just want them to have fun. While that can be the case for many other activities, learning an instrument should be considered a long term journey that includes many different stages.
Instead of scoring points to win a game, music education focuses on skill development over a long period of time. It is crucial for us to guide our children to enjoy the process of learning that includes hard and easy, fun and boring, fulfilling and frustrating and much more. As parents and teachers, we should welcome these feelings and allow space for children to process.
In the following weeks, we will be exploring some strategies to help them process these feelings.
May you know you are making a difference, even if your child never tells you themselves.
We would be more than happy to answer any questions and provide more specific consultancy if needed.
