Students in grades 3-8 prepare projects for competition in the annual Philadelphia Media and Design Competition (Philly MDC).
The Philly MDC is an exposition of student work from across the city of Philadelphia and is hosted by the School District of Philadelphia each spring.
Completing projects for the competition allows students to:
develop a deeper understanding of design principles and intellectual property;
explore issues and create artifacts about things that interest them;
reinforce computer and technology skills by creating meaningful artifacts for authentic audiences and purposes;
strengthen reading and writing skills by completing research and reflecting on the design process; and
improve time management, organizational, and presentation skills.

Grade 8 students Nasir, Ubayd, and Zyair won first place in the digital movie category at the state competition in Elizabethtown, PA for their documentary on Chinatown and the proposed Sixers arena.
Grades 6-7 students Farrah, Nyasia, and Zuri won first place in the logo design category. Their logo will be used to promote next year's competition.
Grade 8 students Nasir, Ubayd, and Zyair won first place* in the digital movie category with their documentary on Chinatown and the proposed Sixers arena.
Grades 6-7 students Farrah, Nyasia, and Zuri won first place* in the logo design category.
Grade 4 students Jack and Reuben won first place in the digital art category with their "space chicken" project.
Grade 7 students Nadomi, Suhayla, and Taylor won second place in the web design category with their website about our school's basketball teams.
Grade 5 students Matthew, Micah, and Sam won second place in the digital movie category with a fundraising video for our school's gym.
Grade 8 students Amirrah, Michaelah, and Mykenzie won third place in the 3D design category with their pencil dispenser project.

Grade 5 students Ezra, Garrett, and Tyson won first place in the animation category with their short Ultra Journey.
Grades 7 and 8 students Nasir, Taahir, and Zyair won second place in the digital movie category with their documentary about child labor.
Grades 6 and 7 students Amirrah, Mykenzie, and Taylor won second place in the 3D design category with their expandable box project.
Grade 4 students Foster, Grant, and Noah won second place in the digital art category with their "sand art" project.
Grades 6 and 7 students Nyasia, Suhayla, and Taylor won third place in the web design category with a website about our school's oratorical competition.
Grade 5 students Caila, Laurel, and Zoë won third place in the digital movie category with a commercial about after school programs at our school.

Grade 7 students Faith and Taraji won first place* in the logo design category and represented Philly at the state competition.
Grade 7 students Taahir and Yasir won first place* in the 3D design category with their Cecil B. Moore memorial prototype and represented Philadelphia at the state competition.
Grade 5 students Aidan and Dylan won second place in the elementary animation category with their stop motion movie “The School of Chickens.”
Grade 3 students Noah, Oliver, and Sam won second place in the elementary digital art category with their project “Our Classmates, All Grown Up.”
