Members of the Marshal Special Teams will monitor specific areas of the golf course and assist with easing the flow of movement for Team Members, Caddies, Official and Media in areas around the Clubhouse and Practice Areas.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AS A SPECIAL TEAMS MARSHAL:
Crosswalks are paths that span from one side of the hole to the other, allowing spectators a more direct route than walking around the entire hole. The crosswalks are only open when play is not going through the hole or immediate location, allowing spectators to safely pass without interfering with play or putting themselves in danger.
Operating the crosswalks (timing the opening and closing of each one without delaying play) is an important task for our Special Teams Marshals.
It is imperative that a clear walkway is created for the players, caddies, and others walking from one green to the next tee. By extending ropes and clearing a path through the gallery, the Marshals will allow the players, caddies, etc. to move without interference or too much distraction.
The ropes lining the golf course will grow slack due to the gallery leaning on them. Sometimes, stakes need to be taken out of the ground so that a player can hit his ball back into play. Reinstalling the stakes and making sure the ropes are stretched tight will be up to the Marshals.
If an evacuation is needed (usually due to weather), Marshals will help direct players to the nearest evacuation area. Marshals will assist the Player Evacuation Committee to ensure players, caddies, etc. evacuate the course safely.
The Special Teams Marshals will be responsible for clearing spectators from the course and then quickly seeking shelter.
Our Ryder Cup spectators are given written communication that they should contact the nearest Volunteer if they need medical assistance. As our Marshal Committee makes up nearly half of our Volunteer Team, they will need to be ready to assist when called upon.
Although cell phones are allowed at the Ryder Cup, they may only be used in accordance to the Ryder Cup Mobile Device Policy. Marshals will be responsible for assisting in the enforcement of this policy by reminding spectators of proper usage.
WE ARE SO EXCITED "FORE" YOU TO BE A SPECIAL TEAMS MARSHAL!
