The key to providing outstanding medical care for our Ryder Cup spectators will be getting to those individuals as quickly as possible. All of our Ryder Cup guests are told in written communication that they should contact the nearest Volunteer if they need medical assistance.
Members of the Ryder Cup Marshal Committee will be instrumental to our success. Communicating clearly to our Medical Staff in a time of need could result in saving someone’s life.
The following “language” has been created to assist you when speaking to the Medical Committee. We ask that you study this language and be prepared to use it when the need for medical assistance occurs.
HOW TO REQUEST MEDICAL ATTENTION
When requesting medical attention for a spectator, turn your radio to the “Medical” Committee Channel and say, “Medical, come in please.”
DESCRIBING AREAS OF A HOLE
When speaking of either side of a hole, use the phrases, “Player right” or “Player left". This refers to the side of the fairway, as a player would see it when facing the green.
Use the following phrases to describe areas of a hole:
“Tee Area”
“Drive Zone” or “Tee Shot Landing Area”
“Pin High”
“In Front of the Green”
“Behind the Green”
“In the crosswalk”
On a par 5, we should also use the term, “Second Shot Landing Area”.
When distances are necessary, tell the Medical Committee, “Player right, 10 yards behind the green,” or “Player left, 20 yards in front of the green".
AFTER CALLING FOR ASSISTANCE
ONCE YOU’VE CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE, STAY WITH THE SPECTATOR IN NEED UNTIL MEDICAL PERSONNEL ARRIVES. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Also, please stay on the “Medical” channel until Medical personnel arrives. Only once the person in need is in the care of the Medical Committee should you switch back to the “Marshal” channel.
Again, it is very important for you to learn this “language.” Speak clearly, slowly, and concisely at all times. And remember - always stay with the person in need until medical assistance arrives.
Thank you in advance - your assistance will help us provide outstanding medical care!
