In an effort to better meet the needs of our spectators and Volunteers, the PGA of America allows mobile devices onto the Ryder Cup grounds.
However, in order to preserve the proper environment for Players to compete, a Mobile Device Policy will be strictly enforced. This policy will be distributed to ticket buyers and Volunteers prior to the event as well as posted on signage at all entrances.
Mobile devices must be kept in “Golf Mode” setting at all times. Golf Mode means:
Set device to silent or vibrate, including but not limited to, ringer and notifications/alerts
Camera flash turned OFF
Other mobile device guidelines:
Incoming and outgoing calls may only be made at designated areas of the Ryder Cup (denoted as “Phone Zones”)
Text, email, and social posting, etc. is allowed on the golf course at any location providing players are not in position and about to play their shots.
Photograph, audio, and video capturing is allowed in all areas during practice rounds (Tuesday – Thursday).
During Match Play Rounds (Friday – Sunday), photography, audio, and video capture is prohibited anywhere within 100 yards of competition or when requested by Players, Caddies, Marshals, Volunteers, Security, or Ryder Cup Staff.
Marshals, Hole Captains, and Area Captains should remind spectators of the Mobile Device Policy in a calm and courteous manner. For example, if a Marshal witnesses a spectator taking a photo of a contestant on Friday of Ryder Cup Week, he or she should approach the individual and say, “Pardon me Sir, but photography of the competition is not permitted within 100 yards of play during Ryder Cup Rounds”.
In addition, the Marshals assigned at/near the tee and the green must make an announcement to the spectators prior to the contestants getting to the location during Match Play Rounds. Simply stating “No photographs; please make sure your phones are on silent” is sufficient.
If a spectator becomes aggressive and/or violent, please notify security on the “Security” radio channel.
