Associate Members

Associate Membership Description

Associate Members are Penn undergraduates who work on UA projects and initiatives without holding one of the 36 representative positions. An Associate Member (AM) is assigned to a committee based on his or her interests. AMs, like all other UA members, are expected to attend weekly committee meetings and make progress on their projects.

AMs cannot vote on the UA, but many students prefer the AM position to being a Representative: it carries fewer obligations than a UA member but allows you to pursue the same projects as one. Past AMs have authored hugely influential resolutions and have often gone on to win a seat on the UA proper at their next election. Many UA leaders have started their careers as AMs!

If you or a friend wants to seek Associate Membership on the UA, you should fill out the online application and, depending on the time and your application, potentially be offered an interview.
