Portland State has a number of Living & Learning Communities. These are areas in residence halls that have students who are interested in a common learning goal or a theme.
For example, there is a Sustainability Living & Learning Community where students take the same freshman inquiry course and plan events and activities that supplement their classroom learning. Faculty can get involved by facilitating an activity and event for the several Living & Learning Communities on campus.
For more information on how to get involved with the Living & Learning Community, please contact the office of Housing & Residence Life. You can email us at reslife@pdx.edu

The University Success program also offers academic coaching for students. Academic coaching is a one on one format with a peer, staff, or a faculty member that meets periodically with students on a number of academic issues. This program is geared towards first year students and issues surrounding their transition into university life. Faculty can participate in this program by volunteering as an academic coach for students. Prior academic coaches have reported that this is an extremely rewarding experience and a great way to give back to the Portland State community.
