The Office of the Dean of Student Life is a resource for all students, faculty and staff as they navigate Portland State University. Our office houses Student Conduct and the PSU CARES Program.
Student Conduct and Community Standards
The mission of Portland State University's Conduct and Community Standards Program is to promote a culture of integrity and respect, as articulated in the Student Code of Conduct. The goals of the student code of conduct process, policies and codes of conduct at PSU, resources for faculty/staff and students, as well as the student conduct complaint form can be found on our website.
CARE Program
PSU CARES stands for Coordination, Assessment, Response, and Education for Students. CARE Advocates are available to meet with students facing barriers to their academic success, including those who are in distress for any number of reasons. Examples include but are not limited to health problems, death of a family member or friend, isolation, lack of family/social support, traumatic life events, financial issues, homelessness, food insecurity, and anything else that may create challenges to a student's academic success. The Office of the Dean of Student Life also serves as a reference point for those seeking to resolve issues of concern or advance initiatives designed to enhance the student experience. We have a tab on our website dedicated to faculty/staff resources, please check it out!
Academic Appeals
The Office of the Dean of Student Life houses the Academic Appeals process. Students who feel they have received a prejudiced or capricious academic evaluation may submit an Academic Appeal Request. Before students submit this request, students must have appealed to the instructor, department chair and appropriate dean. Students should then read the Academic Appeals Guidelines to see if their grade dispute fits the purview of the Academic Appeal.
