Social Studies
Students who plan to teach Social Studies at the middle or high school level will need to be prepared to teach basic US and World History, geography, economics, and US Government.
Requirements for Social Studies
History
2 courses in US History-HST 201, 202, 203 History of the United States (8 credits)
A course in World History- HST 104/105/106 Intro to World History (4 credits)
Geography
An introductory course in human geography-GEOG 230 Environment and Society: Global Perspectives (4 credits)
An introductory course in physical geography-GEOG 210 Physical Geography (4 credits)
Economics
EC 201 Principles of Microeconomics (4 credits)
EC 202 Principles of Macroeconomics (4 credits)
Political Science
An introductory course in US government or US politics-PS 101 US Government or PS 102 United States Government (4 credits)
An introductory course in state/local, comparative, or international politics-PS 203 Intro to State and Local Politics or 204 Intro to Comparative Politics or 205 International Politics (4 credits)
36 credits total
If students are not able to take the 100-200 level required courses, there are 300-400 level alternatives for some of the requirements.
