Chemistry

Students who plan to teach Chemistry at the middle or high school level should complete one of the two programs shown. 

A positive departmental recommendation for admission to the GTEP program will depend on at least a B- in all chemistry and physics courses, and a combined 2.25 GPA for these courses.

Chemistry majors (Preferred)

The degree program should include the following courses:

• CH 221/227, 222/228, 223/229 General Chemistry and Labs (5, 5, 5)

• CH 320, 321 Quantitative Analysis (4, 2)

• Organic Chemistry (choose one)

  • CH 334, 335, 336, 337, 338 Organic Chemistry(4, 4, 4, 2, 2) or 

  • CH 331, 332, 337, 338  Elements of Organic Chemistry (4, 4, 2, 2)

• CH 440 Physical Chemistry or CH 350 or 490 Biochemistry (4)

• Physics

  • PH 201/204, 202/205, 203/206 or 

  • PH 211/214, 212/215, 213/216 General Physics (4 each)

• Chemistry or Physics elective (4)

Total 54-58

Requirements for non-Chemistry majors (General Science)

Students majoring in general science are advised to strengthen their preparation for teaching by taking additional chemistry and physics courses as their degree program permits.

Minimum Requirements: 

• CH 221/227, 222/228, 223/229 General Chemistry and Labs (5, 5, 5)

• CH 320, 321 Quantitative Analysis (4, 2)

• Organic Chemistry (choose one)
