Art
Students who plan to teach Art at the middle or high school level should complete one of the two programs shown.
Art majors
Students who plan to teach Art at the middle or high school level should complete a bachelor’s degree in Art. This degree should include a minimum of 45 to 60 studio credits, with a strong mix of Art foundation classes, as well as art history courses.
Requirements for non-Art majors
It is possible to not have a degree specifically in Art and be considered as a well-qualified candidate, as long as the Art foundation studio and history course requirements are satisfied.
Students must complete sequences of 9 to 12 credits of the following Art foundation/history courses or their approved equivalent:
Drawing (9 to 12)
Painting (9 to 12)
Printmaking (9 to 12)
3-D / Sculpture/Ceramics (9 to 12)
Design/Digital Media (9 to 12)
Art History including Non-Western/Contemporary (9 to 16)
Total: 54-76 credits
