How to be Certified as a Trainer with the
Oregon Registry Trainer Program
Oregon Registry Trainer Program
The Oregon Registry Trainer Program encourages those who provide training to the field of childhood care and education in Oregon to become certified. This voluntary certification invites trainers to:
Use a framework for developing and delivering professional development aligned with Oregon’s Core Knowledge Categories and Training Session Standards.
Join a community (statewide network) of peers and develop partnerships across specialties, communities, and languages.
Promote high quality professional development opportunities to Oregon’s childhood care and education workforce, benefiting children and families, educators, and partners across the state.
Apply to become a Certified Trainer, using the following steps:
Participate with the Oregon Registry
Create a MyORO Account, if you do not already have one.
Upload educational transcripts and training documentation.
Submit an online Step Application.
Determine the Trainer Type you want to apply for
There are five trainer types. Trainer type determines the level of “Set” training that a trainer may provide. Within each main type, “specialty” designates that the trainer may train in select and not all Core Knowledge Categories . Certified trainer types are determined by qualifications and include:
Master Trainer
Specialty Master Trainer
Community Trainer
Specialty Community Trainer
Standardized Trainer

Complete the Qualifications
Gather documentation for each of the qualifications for your specific trainer type.
Document Education in the Field or in specialty area (upload to MyORO account if not already there)
Document Experience in the Field or in specialty area (alternate documentation to be submitted with application if not already recorded in MyORO account through years of participation in ORO)
Document Training or Education in Adult Learning / Adult Development (upload to MyORO account if not already there)
Document Hours of Training Delivery to Groups of Adults (alternate documentation to be submitted by email with application, if not already recorded in ORO as a trainer for training events or on participant certificates)
Complete the Orientation to Oregon’s Professional Development System
There are a couple of ways to complete the orientation to Oregon’s Professional Development System:
Review Orientations 1-5 and complete Quizzes 1-5 and submit them to occdtrainer@pdx.edu
OR
Take the specially developed ORTP training designed to meet the orientation requirement. These two trainings are:
Introduction to Oregon’s Professional Development System (Replaces Orientations 1-3) (1 hour asynchronous training)
Developing an Oregon Registry Training Session (Replaces Orientations 4 and 5) (3 hour live online training. Register for this training at https://forms.gle/VLFb2kTS9puMtPKS9)

When you have met or are close to meeting the requirements for your trainer type, complete the application and email it, along with any required supporting documents to OCCDTrainer@pdx.edu.
