Student Support

The Millar Library houses thousands of electronic resources and over 1.4 million printed volumes and media resources. The Library faculty and staff offer support to students wishing to use the library collections and services to achieve their goals.


The PSU Writing Center offers guidance tips, and support for academic writing by appointment. The center's website also offers instructional videos and step-by-step suggestions for writing papers. 

The Tutoring Center offers drop-in tutoring services, academic coaching, electronic tutoring, general academic support, study skills workshops, as well as links to other campus academic support.

The Campus Life page will help you find everything you need to know in order to make the most of your time at PSU. This is your resource for finding information on student centers, student leadership organizations, recreation and entertainment, getting around campus and living in Portland.

The Student Health and Counseling Center (SHAC) provides medical and dental health services, emotional and psychological counseling, and academic testing, specifically for Portland State University students. An advice nurse is available for urgent after-hours phone assistance.

The Campus Housing office supports students in finding on-campus accommodations, as well as a guide for finding off-campus housing.

The Disability Resource Center (DRC)'s mission is to make university life accessible to students with disabilities. The Center identifies, evaluates, and reduces or eliminates barriers to student access and equity throughout the PSU community.

Portlanders love their bikes, and for good reason: it's often the quickest and cheapest way to travel in the city, especially on campus. PSU's Bike Hub is a great resource for keeping your bike running smoothly, offering workshops for DIY bike maintenance, self-service and full-service bike repairs, and a shop selling bicycle-related accessories. They'll even loan you a bike helmet or lock if you've forgotten yours that day. Low-cost membership is available to students, faculty and staff.

Need a good workout? The Student Rec Center offers a cardiovascular and weight training gym, running track, aquatic complex with a lap pool and whirlpool, outdoor activities such as hiking and biking, intramural sports and much more.

Portland State's athletic teams, the Vikings proudly represent our university in many sports, including football, basketball, cross-country, track and field, tennis, soccer, vollyeyball and cheerleading. Come out and cheer on your Vikings!

International Scholars

This site contains all the information needed by international scholars and employees at PSU.

PSU’s Veterans Resource Center and the VetsSuccess program  are available to help current and prospective student veterans with educational and personal support.

The Career Center holds workshops, classes and events (such as recruiting opportunities with companies like Nike and PepsiCo Frito-Lay, or graduate fairs for those interested in advanced degrees). They provide writing support for resumes and CVs. They also have information on international internships (some while earning university credits) and employment opportunities.

This site contains in-person and remote support for students with children, including daycare options, subsidy programs and more.

Free Food Market continues to operate on the 2nd Monday of each month. Check their website for current schedule and requirements. 

A community sheltering students through housing crises or transitions. The program can offer room and meals for students who qualify. Students can apply by contacting the PSU CARE team, who will assist them with filing the application and connect them to additional services.

There are several places on campus for mental wellness. The Mind Spa provides biometric feedback, massage chairs, and light therapy by appointment.

The Quiet Prayer & Meditation Lounge is located in the basement of Smith Student Union.
