From building a bridge capable of supporting impressive loads, to constructing a passive solar house, rescuing the Mole, designing and performing music on a handmade pan flute, tackling the biodiversity challenge, and even stepping into the role of astronauts—these were just some of the exciting events students participated in during the 5th Annual Science Olympics.
Over 250 Cawthra students rose to the challenge this year, bringing enthusiasm, creativity, and incredible team spirit—making this year’s Olympiad one of our most dynamic and engaging competitions yet.
The Science Olympiad is a dynamic, hands-on competition open to all Cawthra Park Secondary School students. Participants engage in various events that challenge them to apply their classroom science knowledge in unique and creative ways.

Ms. Petrychkovych who dedicated their time and effort to planning and organizing the 5th Annual Cawthra Science Olympics.
This year, fifteen cross-grade teams competed in thirteen diverse and exciting events throughout the day, showcasing their skills, creativity, and determination. In addition to crunching numbers, mixing chemicals, massing balloons, and rhyming off interesting facts, students built their team spirit and got to know each other.
As last year, the highlight of the day was the VOICE Battle. For this challenge, participants were asked to create a remix of an existing song, using specific scientific vocabulary.
Congratulations to all students for participating in a successful day of science exploration at Cawthra!
After thirteen events and 5 hours of competition, the most successful team remained undecided. It all came down to the final Amazing Race relay. In this final event, all teams competed in a series of mini-events and whichever team crossed the finish line first would likely be the team to claim Cawthra’s Science Olympics Trophy.
