We are very privileged here at Cawthra Park to have a woodlot ecosystem to explore right on our doorstep!
Grade 9 Science classes and Environmental Science regularly visit the Cawthra Woods to explore and learn about ecosystems in action and the impact humans can have - both positive negative.
The Cawthra Woods is home to an endangered species - the Jefferson Salamander. This urban woodland is one of the last place in Canada that you can find the Jefferson. Living under the leaf litter it is hard to spot, though we can usually uncover and get a quick peek at its cousin, the Redback Salamander (pictured here).
The Woods is a great place to investigate many different species of plants and animals.
