In the 3D giant-screen documentary Secrets of the Universe, physicist Manuel Calderón de la Barca Sánchez travels the globe to epicentres of cutting-edge science – from CERN in Switzerland to Perimeter Institute.
The giant-format film, which was co-produced by Perimeter, is an immersive journey into some of the grandest scientific ideas and experiments of our time, and brings to life complex scientific ideas in vivid detail. It follows Calderón de la Barca Sánchez, a physics professor at the University of California, Davis, as he puts his own theories about quark-gluon plasma to the test with particle collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.
In a special webcast on Wednesday, November 3, he'll share and discuss exclusive film excerpts and chat with Perimeter Institute's Greg Dick about his own research, and the importance of communicating the power of fundamental science. Read more.
On March 6th, McMaster University is running a free conference: International Women in Science. The 2021 conference, themed The Global Evolution of Healthcare, will be taking place virtually on Zoom on Saturday, March 6th from 10:00AM to 4:25PM on a drop-in basis (meaning, students can choose to attend any of the events that will be held throughout the day), through McMaster University, and will be free to attend.
IWiSci was developed from a place of passion and ambition, with the ultimate goal being to bring female-identifying students and faculty together to empower one another, and to engage in discussion about what it means to be a woman in science today and in the future.
The IWiSci Day Conference is an excellent opportunity for students with an interest in STEM to meet distinguished researchers and professionals through panels, keynotes, and workshops.
The full-day conference includes panel discussions from female-identifying professors, graduate students, and experts in STEM fields, lectures from keynote speakers, workshops for university and high school students, and networking opportunities. The conference is open to everyone who is interested, regardless of age or gender. See attached flyer that contains more information about this year’s activities and contributors, and a link to a Google form to sign up to attend the conference.
