OVERVIEW OF THE YCC

Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a two-week summer employment opportunity for teenagers to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia while developing essential work and life skills. In this program, youth spend weekdays completing work projects such as trail maintenance and small construction projects. During weeknights and the weekend between sessions, crew members will engage in environmental education and adventure opportunities.

Ten Crew Members live at each host park with three to four adult Crew Leaders. Crews are divided into male and female groups. There are no co-ed crews. Participants learn to live and work as a community of diverse individuals while fostering independence and self-confidence. During their time in the program, crew members are not allowed to have cell phones, laptops or other electronic devices.

We’re offering a starting pay range of $18–$20/hour, depending on experience. Students must have a valid driver’s license, and once hired, they’ll have the opportunity to earn a raise after obtaining their state spray license. We cover all training, study materials, and licensing costs.

This is a great opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in turf management, landscaping, and general agricultural practices—excellent skills and knowledge to add to a résumé.

For seniors headed to NRCC in fall 2026 . . . .

We are seeking motivated NRCC students for summer employment in the areas of construction and real estate development, with the opportunity to transition to part-time work during the school year. Location is Blacksburg - Pulaski area.

This is a hands-on position, working directly in the field during the summer and assisting with development research and project support during the academic year.

The goal of this shadowing program is to enable participants to learn about health careers while shadowing/observing within Carilion facilities. Hands-on patient care or treatment while shadowing/observing is NOT permitted for the participants of this shadowing program.

Under no circumstance can any individual shadow or observe in any Carilion facility without the written approval and confirmation of appointment from Carilion's Office of Visiting Student Affairs (VSA).
