SAT, ACT, PSAT info

Attention 10th and 11th grade students,

In October PCHS will provide an opportunity for you to take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, the PSAT/NMQST.

PSAT Date:  Saturday, October 17,  2026
Start Time:  7:45am
End Time:  Approximately 10:45am
Location:  PCHS Commons
Cost:  $37.00
Registration Window:  Monday, August 31, 2026- Friday, September 18, 2026

Payment must be received by Friday, September 12  via SchoolCash Online to finalize your PSAT registration.

Eligible 11th grade students may qualify for a fee waiver.

The PSAT will be administered digitally. PCHS students must bring their Chromebook. 

What is the PSAT and why should I take it?

• It is an assessment administered to 10th and 11th grade students that helps prepare them for the SAT.

• Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT, on average, score higher on the SAT than those who do not take the PSAT/NMSQT.

• The PSAT/NMSQT connects students to recognition and scholarship programs through the National Merit Scholarship Program

• The test links students who take the PSAT to personalized online SAT proactive through the Khan Academy

• It provides information to students about their potential for AP success

• It links students to online college planning resources

• Tenth grade students who plan to apply to Southwest VA Governor's School should take the PSAT for admission consideration.

Test day must haves:

• Chromebook (fully charged) and charger

• pen or pencil

• Driver's License or other approved ID (see Mrs. Carter to receive CollegeBoard approved ID)

• approved calculator (optional, there is a graphing calculator built into the testing app)

• external mouse (optional)
