During the school year, we will have colleges interested in coming to PCHS to share their information. As they get scheduled, we'll post them here and send the information out via the SENIOR & JUNIOR CLASS REMINDs and through Senior/Junior PCPS Emails. Signup in the links below.
Visits will either be in the PCHS Library, or the front office conference room - depending on number of students signed up and availability. We'll let you know where the session will take place when we send out the reminder closer to the visit date. Check back often - September and October are busy times for college visits.

There is a lot to the college process and it can be overwhelming if you don't have anything to guide you. Whether you are planning to go to a two year school or a four year school upon graduation, we have you covered!
If you plan to go to NRCC and then transfer to a four year school, or learn a skill and then go into the workforce, click HERE for things you need to get done and deadlines to do them!
If you plan to go directly to a four year school upon high school graduation, click HERE for the things you need to get done and deadlines to do them!
A typical high school class is one credit. A typical college class is 3 credits. If you have taken dual enrolled classes you are required to not only send your PCHS transcripts, but also your NRCC transcripts to the schools you are considering. See question and answer below on how to send transcripts. Or click on TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS in the left panel for instructions.
Click on the DUAL ENROLLMENT INFORMATION on the left panel to find out which dual enrolled courses you took and how many credits they were worth.
When a college lists that they are "test optional" it means they are not requiring students to submit an SAT or ACT for admission. Some colleges are moving to this practice just because, and others are adopting this policy due to COVID-19 restrictions that eliminated the opportunity for students to test. Regardless of the reason why, test optional means you are not penalized for not submitting an SAT or ACT score. Check your individual college websites to see if they are requiring a test score.
NOTE: In some cases colleges may be "test optional" for admission, but may require an SAT or ACT score for scholarship eligibility - check your individual college websites for verification.
No. NRCC does NOT require an SAT or ACT for admission.
Most likely the answer is no. The SAT/ACT is a measure used by four year schools to see how well a student will do in college. If you attend the community college and then transfer to a four year school, you will use the transfer process and the four year school will use your NRCC transcripts to see how well you are doing in college. In some rare cases, if you go to the community college for just one year, or one semester and then transfer to a four year school, they may require you to submit an SAT/ACT score - check the individual college website.
If you are a current SENIOR, you will need to send your transcripts through PARCHMENT. See TRANSCRIPT REQUEST on the main menu for detailed instructions about how to create an account and send your transcripts. If you took any dual enrolled courses while in high school, you will also need to request your NRCC transcripts to be sent to your four year school - this is also done through your PARCHMENT account. In the case of dual enrolled classes the four year institutions want to get the transcript from the accrediting school and that would be NRCC.
There is an individual assigned within Pulaski count to identify the community service projects in which ACCE students can be involved. Once you are in the ACCE program that individual will reach out to you. You are required to do 80 hours of community service each year that you are in the program. The preference is that you complete the community service hours in the summer before the semester of school so you are not trying to complete community service while in school. Volunteer hours can not be started until a student graduates from high school.

Princeton Review designates UVA as the No. 2 Best Value public university in the country and the No. 1 public institution for financial aid.
Already rated as one of the best values in public higher education, and the top-ranked public university for financial aid, UVA meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for all undergraduate students and provides grants and scholarships that limit the amount of need-based loans a student may accrue while earning a degree at UVA.
Key components of the AccessUVA expansion include:
Virginia families with an income of $50,000 or less will receive grants and scholarships that equal or exceed tuition, fees, housing and dining. Prior to Fall 2024, the maximum family income level for such aid packages was $30,000.
Virginia families with an income of $100,000 or less will receive grants and scholarships that equal or exceed tuition and fees. Prior to Fall 2024, the previous income threshold was $80,000.
Virginia families with an income of $150,000 or less will receive at least $2,000 in need-based grants. Prior to Fall 2024 the income level was $125,000.
UVA will continue to cap need-based loans over four years at $4,000 for low-income Virginians, and at $18,000 for other Virginians with need.
If applying by the Sept 29 deadline, student must fill out THIS Google form so PCHS can send your name to VT for them to pull your application for their review.
Students should be academically prepared to attend Virginia Tech in the major they select. Although the review is holistic, taking into consideration several attributes, there are minimum requirements to participate in the onsite admission. Those minimums are:
a cumulative GPA above a 3.5 (No Ds, no Fs, and minimal Cs)
evidence of college-level work with attempting an advance curriculum (either through honors, AP, Dual Enrollment, or IB courses); and
have met with either a school counselor or admissions counselor to finalize major selection for the Virginia Tech application.
Students can submit their accompanying academic materials (e.g., the Self-Reported Academic Record - STARS) by the end of the day October 2. VT is only using the Common App. After you submit the CommonApp, it will take a couple of days before you can access the STARS, so plan accordingly - don't wait until the last minute. Apply HERE.
