Sir Prabhashankar Pattani’s book “વાતોમાં બોધ” truly enlightens the importance of values through its stories. Each story takes a different angle in terms of relevance with history, Rajputana, or the life of common people. The stories bring out management and synchronization between the higher ruling class and the lower working class through the visions of a noble ruler. Each story has been written with an emphasis on values and truthfulness that leave an impact on people of all age groups. 

The book written and illustrated through the ideologies of an old man frames the building blocks of virtues and ethics for the modern generation. The thought of publishing English and Hindi translations of the book has been commendable. It makes one glad to know that the book and its values are now taking shape across the globe barring language barriers. However, it makes it impossible for one to read the book without expressing his/her sincere gratitude towards Sir Pattani.  

“વાતોમાં બોધ” primarily highlights the effectiveness of a morale based administration and governance. For instance, in the story, “રાજ્યાભિષેકનો અર્થ” one can perceive a true sense of internal governance in a simple and concise language. It highlights the fact that a wise ruler is not only acknowledged by his religious values, responsibilities towards his citizens and provinces also play a crucial role. Another instance of fidelity towards the nation could be observed in the story “ખરો મંત્રી કોણ?” wherein we see Sir Pattani’s retrospection concerning a legitimate government system with respect for each other. An exemplary internal administration not only wins the respect of its citizens, but it leaves a powerful example for modern era leaders as well to continue the legacy. Sir Pattani dauntlessly states that “રાજાઓ રાજ્ય કરે છે. મંત્રીઓ તેનો નાશ અથવા રક્ષા કરે છે.”

“વાતોમાં બોધ” is a quick read for any person irrespective of his/her inclination toward reading as it stresses the importance of virtues in a short, simple, and understanding manner. Each of the twenty-three stories guides a person to lead a life based on virtues of truthfulness and wisdom. Simultaneously, it also compels the reader to analyze the current administration, management, and governance scenario to justly understand the ‘બોધ’ through stories.
