ANTARAAL

Curatorial Note

અંતરાલ, or Interlude  will mark a reflective moment for the participants of  Pattani Archives Summer Internship Program 2022 . During the course of three months, six selected participants have been working with a wide range of historical narratives and cultural interpretations pertaining to the ever-changing relationships within and between the Pattani family and the city of Bhavnagar.

In this process, the participants have explored a series of different exercises from mapping histories to making measured drawings, illustrating, interviewing, primary and secondary research and so on. Instead of arriving at a tangible outcome, these project experiences have led us to newer questions about Pattani Archives, its pursuit for cultural preservation and the influences of Bhavangar’s journey over time. Thus, this community engagement initiative has been curated, wherein the internship exercises at Pattani Archives are being positioned within the broader context of the city of Bhavnagar. In order to celebrate the evolution of socio-cultural and artistic landscapes in this region, the project presentations will present ideas and inquiries to its audiences.

This community engagement initiative has been co- curated at Pattani Archives with continued contribution from our six participants of Summer internship 2022. Along with their own project exercises, they have been actively engaged in exercises of spatial design and composition, creative visualization, and articulating the curatorial intent since three weeks and will continue working with the ground staff, to present their propositions to the people of Bhavnagar.

All different processes of this internship have been guided by Ishita Shah in her role as an invited mentor, and overseen by Avni Pattani, Director.

The community engagement initiative is being made possible by the generous support of our regional industrialists Mr. Bipin Tamboli, Tamboli Castings Limited and Mr Ramesh Shah, Madhu Silica.
