Sports Medicine FAQ's
How can I get involved in Sports Medicine?
We try to invite anyone interested in athletic training to come out and help during spring football. This isn't necessarily a tryout, but rather making sure students understand the work we do and understand the commitment it takes to become a student trainer.
Is experience required?
No experience required. Just a desire to learn!
How can I best prepare to make the tennis team?
Students MUST turn in an application to become a student trainer at Dobie High School. These will be provided to your intermediate schools soon after the elective fair with directions on how to complete it and turn it in. Once we get these applications, we check grades and discipline reports to make sure a student can handle the stress of school along with working as a student athletic trainer.
What is expected of student athletes on your team?
All student trainers work through football season. As a freshman, you will work one day at Dobie9, one day at the Main campus, and work one football game per week. After football season, you will be assigned a second sport to work. Within that second sport group, you all will determine who works what days for practices/games. Practices at Dobie9 are typically finished by 4 PM. Practice at Dobie Main is usually finished by 6 PM (sometimes later). The costs you will incur will be for your game day shorts (black and khaki Bermuda shorts only) and game day pants (black and khaki---no tight leggings allowed).
What time of year is your season?
We don't have a season! We work year round, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring break (depending on your second sport assignment).
Additional Information:
Being a student athletic trainer takes commitment not only to our teams, but most importantly your grades! We have a whole lot of fun working together as a group. We will always try to have an end of year field trip (depending on COVID of course!) so we can kick back and have some fun. Please join our Zoom during the Virtual Elective Fair to ask any other questions you may have!
