This VET Board Developed course aims to provide students with the foundation knowledge and the elementary skills required to work in a retail environment and provide assistance to customers and the community.
The qualification is recognised as an entry-level qualification for employment in the retail services Industry and provides opportunities to:-
Use a range of retail equipment and technology
Provide client services— receive clients, make appointments and handle client enquiries and complaints
Develop skills in advising and selling products
Certificate III in Retail (Release 3)
240 hour course: 4 units of HSC credit
Students achieving at least one unit of competency will be eligible for an AQF Statement of Attainment showing partial completion of their qualification.

Board Developed Courses (also called Industry Curriculum Frameworks) contribute towards the HSC and have an optional HSC exam for those who do a 240 hour course.
Packaging Rules: - Total number of units = 13
8 core units plus 5 elective units of which:
· MIN 3 elective units must be selected from the elective units listed
· 2 elective units may be selected from relevant training package or accredited course

Holistic assessment is used to assess students against a range of elements of competency. One assessment task may include a number of competencies.
The methods used for collecting evidence of competency may include:
Workplace journals and report
Case Studies /simulation exercises
Portfolios and research assignments
Oral questioning and presentations
Finished products
Practical demonstration of specific skills/knowledge

Mandatory 70 hours for the 240 Hour course (35 hours per year minimum)

This course provides a pathway to SIR40316 - Certificate IV in Retail Management.
Possible job roles include in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.
Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles, such as:
Provide product and service advice in a retail store
Sell products and services in a variety of retail settings
Work as a checkout operator
Check stock and replenish shelves
Organise and maintain work areas and displays
Advise customers on the location, selection, price, delivery, use and care of goods available from the store, with the aim of encouraging them to buy and to return to buy in the future
Operate cash registers and accept payment, or prepare finance arrangements (invoices and contracts, for example)
Take special orders for items not currently in stock, or not normally stocked, and notify customers when the items have arrived
Package goods for customers and arrange delivery
Price, stack and display items for sale and keep the store tidy and attractive
Be aware of health, safety and welfare issues and practices
Participate in stocktaking (counting and describing the goods in stock)
Arrange for the repair of damaged goods or advise on necessary repairs
Order items
