The Stage 6 Industrial Technology (Timber Products and Furniture Technologies) course is intended to help students develop a knowledge and understanding of the Timber Industry and its impact on society and the environment. This involves the investigation of management strategies, production processes and technologies adopted by companies in the industry, as well as the designing, development and production of practical projects in the Preliminary and HSC courses. These practical projects also require students to communicate the development of their project through the documentation of a detailed portfolio.
Safe and skilful use of tools, machines, equipment and processes are taught with the intention that students will be able to produce projects of industry quality.

Students are advised that the completion of the Industrial Technology (Timber) course in Years 9 and 10 is not a prerequisite for participation in this course.
Students will also be required to complete a range of on-line safety tests, and demonstrate competency, prior to being given permission to use tools, machines and equipment.
All materials for the Preliminary course will be supplied by the College. However, students will be required to supply their own materials and hardware for the HSC major project. Portfolio work related to the projects will need to be presented in a professional manner. Expenses related to the major project development and production will be the student’s responsibility.

A 1 ½ hour written examination (40)

Internal Assessment
