Study & Assessment
KLA: MATHEMATICS
KLA: MATHEMATICS
There are two distinct sections of Mathematics: Content and Mathematical Thinking. Students must perform equally well in both areas to achieve at the highest levels in Stage 6.
Content:
Learning the processes and methods of the course
Memorising key pieces of information.
Practice and drill are essential in developing a knowledge of content.
Mathematical thinking
Requires students to learn how to think in a logical, sequenced manner.
Students must learn the skills necessary to solve problems in familiar and unfamiliar situations
Activities that ask students to evaluate and problem solve, such as working at a challenging task until they find the solution for themselves, are essential to learning this skill.
To achieve at the highest levels of Stage 6, students must be able to effectively problem solve in unfamiliar contexts
Students are assessed in Stage 6 using Course Performance Descriptors. These are summarised below:
The full Course Performance Descriptors can be read on the NESA website
