I would like to present to you the Black Student Union Mural by Georgeta Fondos (HOME - Georgeta Fondos Art) located on the wall of the east stairwell of the 4th Building at Boca Raton Community High School. This is the second installment of murals (4) by Ms. Fondos scheduled to be completed by the summer. The set of murals at BRCHS was led by Mr. Andrew Sloan, fellow staff and sponsor of Latinos in Action (LIA) at Boca High, with the LIA Mural being the first of its kind to promote cultural diversity as well as inclusivity. His solid connection has been key. Our BSU student members, who assisted the muralist, were actively involved in the project indeed by painting most of the quotes, butterflies, and placing their handprints on the mural (they were literally hands-on as you can see)
On Tuesday, the image of the black male graduate was the focus with the muralist as the students began writing in and painting the quotes on the tree branches.
"To do a project that would influence and educate was really impactful on me and others who worked on this mural. It showed me that with great creativity and passion, a beautiful result will come out of it and that is what this mural was all about. Georgeta put in the time and effort to make this all happen and know every student of color has something to be proud of and inspired by." - Jonathan Mode
