The AVer U70+ document camera is the most common model of document camera found in the SDPBC interactive classroom. A direct USB connection supplies both video and power, and the AVerTouch software features document camera controls that allow teachers to present live video, annotate, capture their screens, compare images, record, and share.
The U70+ document camera and AVerTouch software can be used with Windows devices, SMART panels, and even Mac OS devices. This standard of technology allows for flexible instructional options to help teachers meet the diverse needs of the learners in their classrooms.
The AVerM11-8M document camera is a newer version of the U70+ found in some District classrooms. Featuring a 180-degree swivel head and a mechanical arm rather than a flexible gooseneck, the M11-8M maintains the same core features as the U70+ but with a slight increase in camera resolution.
The AVer U70+ and M8-11M document cameras connect with a 10ft USB 3.0 A-B Male/Male cable (see right), which provides both power and video. Connections should be made from an available USB 3.0 port on the teaching device (teacher laptop, docking station, or SMART panel) to the doc cam, placed on a sturdy, flat surface as close to the students as possible.
Cables longer than 10 ft. are not recommended. Using a cable longer than 10ft or using an extension cable may result in loss of power or video connection.
For U70+ document cameras:
The U70+ will automatically power on when the AVerTouch software is opened, and power off when the software is closed.
For M8-11M document cameras:
The M8-11M document camera can be manually powered on by pressing the power button on the camera body. It can also be automatically powered on by opening the AverTouch software. It can be powered off by pressing the power button or closing the AVerTouch software.
The AVerTouch software can be self-installed by teachers via the Portal Manager.
Click on the Portal Manager icon on your device desktop, then search for "AVer." Then, click on the AVerTouch tile to begin the installation. Please note: you will need to reboot your device before opening AVerTouch for the first time after installation.
A detailed guide for installing AVerTouch on both Windows and Mac OS devices can be found here.
When an AVer document camera is plugged into a computer for the first time, the selected playback device may default to Speakers (Aver Audio), disrupting sound to a teacher's Audio Enhancement system. To correct this, do the following:
Log into the computer as user (teacher).
Make sure the AVerTouch software is installed on the computer.
Connect the document camera to the computer with the provided 10 ft. USB cable.
Click on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the desktop [see graphic 1].
The default playback device will be "Speakers (Aver Audio)" [see graphic 2].
Select the dropdown arrow to view the installed playback devices [see graphic 3].
Choose "Speakers / Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio)" [see graphic 4].*
*For teacher laptops with audio connections at the laptop docking station, the correct default audio will display as "Speakers (ATE1133)" [See Graphic 5].
In most cases, this issue can often be resolved by disconnecting the USB 3.0 document camera cable from the document camera or PC and reconnecting it.
Users encountering this error persistently on a supported device after first use may have a defective camera. To test, connect the camera USB to a different device, such as the PC located on the back of the classroom SMART panel, and then launch AVerTouch. If the "Visualizer is not connected!" error message displays, it is likely a defective camera and should be replaced via AVer Warranty.
Users may also receive this message if attempting to use the U70+ with a USB extension cable. In this case, connecting the U70+ directly to the device may resolve the issue.
AVerTouch will not load the camera image if it is being used by another program, such as the Windows camera app or Google Meet. Similarly, this message will also display if another user has logged into the same device on another user profile and has left the AVerTouch software running.
To resolve this, close AVerTouch. Then, close any other applications currently using the camera and restart AVerTouch. If the camera is being used in a different user's profile, disconnecting and reconnecting the USB will shut down the camera so it can be used on the active profile.
Users may also receive this message if attempting to use the U70+ with a USB extension cable. In this case, connecting the U70+ directly to the device may resolve the issue.
