As we wrap up another term, we are delighted to share some fantastic news regarding the Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link (HSLFL). The Link has recently received a generous donation, which will go towards funding an incredible opportunity - a visit from a group of teachers from Hastings, Sierra Leone, to the UK.
This visit, provisionally planned for June 2025, aims to mirror the successful exchange last October, when Miss Yates, Mr Bula-Edge, and Mr Newell visited Sierra Leone. The upcoming trip will allow the visiting teachers to learn about the UK curriculum and pedagogy, participate in workshops, and immerse themselves in Hastings' cultural and historical events. Additionally, they will visit schools to observe and share best teaching practices, fostering a deeper understanding of education across both nations.
While the donation is a significant step forward, there is still some fundraising to be done to ensure the trip’s success. Miss Yates, Mr Newell, and Mr Bula-Edge recently met with representatives from other schools involved in the link to discuss logistics and planning. To bridge the remaining financial gap, the link has planned several fundraising events, and we encourage our school community to support these initiatives (details below).
The Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link remains a vital part of our school curriculum, enriching our understanding of diversity and global education. Through this partnership, students and teachers engage in activities such as exchanging letters, sharing projects, and participating in joint events. These efforts help build meaningful connections, enhance cultural awareness, and promote global citizenship among young people.
By continuing to nurture this partnership, we contribute to a more interconnected and compassionate world, empowering students to develop a broader perspective on education and society. We look forward to further updates on the upcoming visit and thank everyone who has supported the link’s mission.
Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable break!
Miss Yates, Mr Bula-edge and Mr Newell
