The O in our ORE acronym stands for 'opportunities' and this term has been all about giving our pupils incredible opportunities.
It was an absolute privilege to take some of our keen singers from Year 6 to The 02 Arena in London. They joined the 9000 strong 'Young Voices' choir and performed to a full arena, singing a range of wonderful songs from old classics to some latest numbers. They were all wonderful representatives of OVPA and sang their hearts out in to the evening.
Our pupils in Year 4 were invited to share the outcome of their 'Pearls of the Sea' project work with The Hastings Contemporary. The Showcase was held at The White Rock Theatre where they performed their sea shanties and celebrated their art work. This was coupled with our Year 5 pupils performing the song they had written with Hastings International Piano, at school. Keeping to the sea theme, their piece was based on The Titanic.
The R in our ORE acronym stands for 'resilience' and this is evident with our Chess fanatics who have been playing during their lunchtimes in an attempt to sharpen their strategic thinking and problem solving skills. The hard work and practice has paid-off, resulting in three chess teams from OVPA competing in the East Sussex Chess Games against other schools. They did exceptionally well and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
The term has finished with the much-loved 'Time to Dance' at The White Rock Theatre. This is a non-competitive celebration of dance from the local primary and secondary schools, giving children across the town the opportunity to perform on stage. This year's theme was 'Memories'. Our dancers in Years 1 & 2 performed a beautiful wedding routine where the happy couple fondly reminisced about their special day. Our young dancers were adorable in their smart suits and wedding dresses, retelling the story perfectly. Our Year 6 dancers took us back to the 90s, dancing to a medly of old school classics wearing shell suits. Their routine included a guest appearance from the Spice Girls and Michael Jackson! Each and every dancer was absolutely superb and shone on the stage.
The E in our ORE acronym stands for 'expanding minds' because children are capable of far more than we can ever imagine. With the right mind-set and ambition, they can achieve anything they want to. Increasing our pupils' knowledge, understanding and experiences broadens their horizons and provides them with a pathway to success.
This term has exemplified our vision for all pupils at OVPA and they have continued to make us exceptionally proud of all they have achieved.
Mrs Campbell
Another term complete! It has been a term of opportunities for our children at OVPA and we have made a highlights video for you to show just some of the amazing things our children have been doing in school and on some of the lovely trips they have been on.
I knew that we had some talent at OVPA but I never realised how much! From singing to joke telling and ballet dancing to football skills, everyone was so impressed with the confidence of our amazing children. These are the happy memories that children will keep and look back on when they are adults. Well done to our winners, Daisy, JJ and Brielle for their brilliant acts. Although there can be only one winner, all the children showed great resilience in managing their disappointment and celebrating the winner.
As you are aware, we have a focus on our attendance this year to make sure that every day counts for our children. I am happy to say that this term our attendance has been increasing. Thank you all the parents you shared their views on attendance and OVPA. We will spend time reviewing your thoughts to support us continuing to improve how we support and promote outstanding school attendance.
One of my favourite times of the year is when we can have our families in school. The last day of term was one of these opportunities for our Open Learning Afternoon. I was so impressed with how well the children were able to explain their learning. You being able to come in is something that the children love and helps build our fantastic community.
Mr Tippett and Miss Sheffield have been working hard this year to enhance our SEND provision in school through the WESEND project. Please take a look at Mr Tippett's SENDCo update page for more information.
I hope that you all have a great half term and I look forward to seeing everyone again on the 24th February.
Mr Paramor
Dear all
As we end this school term, I want to celebrate all that you have achieved. Your hard work and enthusiasm have been truly remarkable, and I, along with my fellow Governors, are incredibly proud of you all.
You've grown so much in your studies, showing resilience and a passion for learning. Remember, every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goals.
It's crucial to keep putting in your best effort. Your attendance, attention in class, and consistent effort are key to success. Each day brings new opportunities to learn and grow, so embrace them with a positive and “can do” attitude.
Education is about more than just pass marks; it's about developing a love for learning and thinking creatively. Your teachers, parents and carers are here to support you, but your dedication and determination will lead you to success.
Let's make the next term count. Celebrate your achievements, keep showing up, and believe in yourself. Together, we can make this school year the best yet. Remember, you have the power to achieve great things and fortune favours the bold and curious!
With pride and encouragement,
Julian van Kan
